Product samples require quality labeling to make them effective sales tools. Whether your customers are browsing through swatch cards, sample books, memo samples, hanging samples, or a special display, the label that accompanies the sampling tool must include all pertinent information about the sample. This information may include the name of the manufacturer, the fabric content, color, pattern, repeat, cleaning code, and any special characteristics the buyer should know. For example, the label could inform buyers if certain slubs or textures are inherent characteristics and not defects in the material. All of this information is essential in helping the customer select the best fabric for their intended use.
Ways to label textiles
Textile labeling may be done in a variety of ways. Swatch book samples and individual memos often have a bottom strip label. This is the most economical way to label samples. The labels are generally done in black and white, since that is very cost effective. However, labels can be done in color according to the preferences of the customer. Printed labels for single memos can be positioned on the front of the sample, attached to the back, or both. For ring and chain memo sets, the labels can be attached like a header as well as positioned on the back. A header tag can have a drilled hole that allows the sample to be put on a ring in order to easily show a collection of fabrics.
Swatch card samples can be presented in a variety of layout options. The product information can be printed directly onto the card. This is especially convenient for waterfall presentations.
A designer look
Many designers with their own fabric or wallpaper lines opt to have custom tags made for their samples. This creates a clean, sophisticated, and professional looking sample. Designers often choose to have a logo on the front and the fabric information on the back. These tags can be made in black and white or full color. A full color pattern print on the back can create a beautiful presentation.
Labeling wallpaper samples
Wallpaper samples can have a header tag or a glued label on the back. The glued label is the less expensive option but can still show a pattern repeat picture and the pattern details. Wallpaper samples can be cut to memos of any size, or they can be bound in customizable covers.
